Change of Plans: The Pleasure and Pain of Walking Away from Academia
Premier performance of American Mother. Text by Pamela Hart, music by composer Jamie Leigh Sampson, with mezzo-soprano Mariami Bekauri and pianist Sandra Leary.
Join me at Bernard’s Inn in Ridgefield Ct for lunch, reading and conversation. I’m thrilled that proceeds will go to the Johnny Mac Soldiers Fund. Since 2014, this foundation has awarded nearly $7.5 million in scholarships to veterans and military family members, especially children of the fallen or disabled. There are now over 1000 Johnny Mac Scholars attending schools all over the country.
The food at Bernard’s, my cousins’ amazing restaurant, will be awesome and there will be books for sale.
The Poetry Project: Turning an Obsession into a Book
I’ll be leading a 5-part series at the Ridgefield CT library in March. Classes take place on Thursday evenings: 3/7, 3/14, 3/21, 4/4 and 4/11 from 6:00-7:30 PM.
The project book speaks to the writer’s need to look widely and deeply into a concern or constraint; a form or question or collection – in short, into what obsesses us. The project book allows writers to be hooked by their compulsions. We’ll look at some recent project books as we explore and interrogate our own preoccupations using visual works of art and other generative techniques. We’ll consider the scope of our particular fixation and its construction into book. Bring an obsession/passion/idea/ question/word/ image and discover your project.
Join us for a reading and conversation with writers responding to and reflecting on art, culture and world events. Light refreshments served.
